So what are terpenes anyway? Terpenes are the molecular compounds found in essential oil that give it its smell and effects. They are responsible for the strong scent that pine trees exude, or that burst of citrus aroma while zesting an orange. They can be applied topically, ingested, or enjoyed by inhalation and vaporization. There are over 20,000 different terpenes found in nature and of those, over 100 can be found in both hemp and cannabis. Although many types of cannabis terpenes can also be found in various different plants, cannabis terpenes tend to have a more true to plant aroma and taste. 1. PLANT DERIVED
Plant derived terpenes are extracted and isolated from several different plants through various methods such as steam or vacuum distillation. The isolated terpenes are then reconstituted together in similar percentages and types that specific strains of marijuana are known to contain, creating a full spectrum blend of isolated terpenes.
Hemp derived terpenes are extracted from different strains of industrial hemp grown here in the US. Because over 200 different terpenes can be found in both hemp and cannabis, they are naturally full spectrum. The terpenes are extracted using vacuum distillation and remain in their original levels and spectrum, just as they are found in the plant before extraction.
3. CANNABIS DERIVED
Cannabis derived terpenes are extracted from legally grown marijuana in a select few states. They are also naturally full spectrum and go through the same extraction process as hemp. Although both industrial hemp and cannabis contain THC and CBD as well as many other cannabinoids, terpenes do not contain any. After the vacuum distillation process, the terpenes are completely isolated from the plant and contain the exact percentage of each terpene that the plant had in its original state. Because terpenes only make up about 1 to 3 percent of the compounds found in hemp and cannabis, a huge amount of material is needed to get a very small amount of terpenes. This makes cannabis terpenes one the most expensive liquids on earth!

Years ago a friend of mine suggested that I should join him in his manliness and start growing my beard out. Scoffing, I agreed. After a few rookie mistakes like shaving my neck line and keeping the mustache too short, I had myself a beard. A couple months went by and I found myself itchy, looking up beard oils balms and waxes, curling out those handle bars and loving the new found look I had found. I knew right then and there that I had discovered one of my passions. I have always been a nerd when it comes to cannabis and all things related. Everything from the science, the art, the movement, and the whole culture that comes with it. The unique scent that cannabis has is so complex and sophisticated, one of natures true works of art. The combination of different smells and effects is never ending. I can't help but give that complex, earthy, diesel like fuel smell another whiff. Combining my love of cannabis with my love of growing a beard was only a matter of time, and after my first hand made bottle of oil that was it. ManeTame LLC was formed.
